Last time I checked some rooms just flat out ban for typing !list these days. Some had public triggers such as a chat command and others had /CTCP triggers for silent running. Typically you could type !list to the room for an on-demand list where each active Fserve would send you a notice. There used to be and probably still are scripts (Polaris IRC, etc) that would run in a room and basically announce to the room that they are serving files, release notes, their trigger to browse their directories, their queue, and an estimated time to a send slot.
